Who and What is Pure Empowerment Physiotherapy?
I’m Kirsten, and I’m the owner and physiotherapist here at Pure Empowerment Physiotherapy.
After spending ten years working for not for profits and for profits I grew tired of the endless focus on growth and profits.
I wanted to be part of the change and solution, so I left my position as an executive for a large national allied health community provider and started Pure Empowerment Physiotherapy.
With a goal to provide top notch physiotherapy to people in my local area in the comfort of their homes. I also want to be sure that I provide this care in a way that is nurturing and empowering. I aim to make sure that everyone I support leaves feeling heard, respected, and valued and that my interactions with them are uplifting and positive.
I also want to make this support cost effective, and so I work hard to be succinct and concise, and to reduce my overheads to be able to provide this care in a way that is accessible to people, hopefully facilitating the ability for people to have more face to face sessions and less budget lost to other administrative charges.
A little bit more about me and my qualifications and experience-
I’ve worked as a community physiotherapist for the last ten years and have focused on ageing, neurological rehab, disability and paediatrics.
I worked for Blue Care and used to run their Parkinson’s Groups and Pulmonary Rehab groups.
I worked for CPL in their paediatric and young adult team and provided physiotherapy and equipment prescription services including running a special clinic called the Walkways Mobility Program. Here I fitted children with complex physical support requirements special walking frames to help them walk.
I was the head of physiotherapy and then all allied health for a large NDIS Allied Health Provider, there I created their graduate training programs, coordinating internal and external training, set up clinical compliance and quality measures, and advocated for ethical and quality care in orthopaedics and disability.
I created the Australian Physiotherapy Associations Level 1 Disability Course. It is an Australian first disability training program for physiotherapists. It contains over 30 hours of content some online modules and recordings of me talking, and also consists of an online tutorial and a full day of face to face training. I still run these workshops and face to face days for the APA.
I was the Queensland Disability Chair for the APA, and am still on the committee.
I was a paramedic for 6 years prior to retraining as a physiotherapist! I’ve worked in Townsville, Murgon, and Brisbane.
I have completed my Graduate Certificate in Clinical Rehabilitation where I focused on Parkinson’s and Progressive Neurological Conditions, Stroke Rehabilitation and General Community Physiotherapy.
I’ve tutored Occupational Therapists at ACU in their Equipment and NDIS module.
I have three cats and a dog, and am a huge animal lover.
